Dental Implants Denham Springs, LA

To replace missing teeth, dental implants are an effective restorative treatment. If you have lost a permanent tooth or multiple permanent teeth, consider getting implants. An implant offers many benefits to your oral health and cosmetic needs. Implants will improve your smile and restore your mouth’s full capacity. The more you learn about the process of getting implants, the more comfortable you can feel during the procedures. Your dentist can also evaluate whether you are a good candidate.

An overview of dental implants

Implants are a viable treatment for people who have one missing tooth or several missing teeth. The treatment consists of three parts: a post, an abutment, and a crown. The crown is natural-looking in size, shape, and color. It allows the patient to once again chew most foods and have a full smile. The post and abutment are strong and act as the root of the crown.

Implants can improve a person’s oral health. Tooth loss can cause nearby teeth to drift and become loose. Eventually, these could also fall out. Implants stop this process. They also prevent bone loss and preserve the shape and structure of the jaw and mouth.

Consult with the general dentist

Before getting serious about dental implants, the patient and dentist should meet. During this discussion, the dentist can explain how the process works and what the person can expect during and after the surgeries. The dentist will talk about caring for and maintaining the implants. During the consultation, the patient should address any concerns and ask any questions about how the implants work and what the recovery looks like following the surgery.

Starting off

The first step is for the dentist to take X-rays and make impressions of the mouth. The dentist may identify severely decayed or damaged teeth to extract. Next, the dentist will numb the patient and make an incision in the gums. A screw-like post is implanted deep into the jaw. Over the next few months, it will fuse with the bone. The patient will also take this time to heal.

At a subsequent appointment, the dentist will again numb the patient and reopen the gums. This exposes the tops of the posts on which the dentist will attach abutments. The patient must spend a few more months healing. Meanwhile, a technician makes the dental crown, which attaches to the abutment.

After the surgeries

The patient will feel some pain and soreness following each procedure of getting dental implants. Rest, pain medication, and a cold compression pack will help the person heal. The implants are durable and should last up to 20 years or more. Practicing good daily oral hygiene habits and seeing the dentist regularly will keep the implants looking nice and performing well. The person should also be cautious about eating hard and sticky foods.

Change your smile for good

You no longer have to hide your face because of embarrassing gaps in your mouth. Talk to your dentist about getting dental implants. The process is long and can include some pain and soreness. However, you can feel happy with the results and show off a whole new look.
